How to use this cubic feet calculator
- Pick a mode. Use Simple for one item, Area if you already know a floor or surface area, Advanced to add weight and pricing, Multi-Product for several different items, or Container/Vehicle Fit to check whether a shipment fits a given space.
- Enter dimensions. In Simple or Advanced mode, enter Length, Width, and Height in ft, in, m, cm, or mm. In Area mode, enter Area directly plus Height.
- Set Quantity if you’re calculating more than one identical item.
- Add Weight per Item (optional), in kg or lb, in Advanced mode if you also need a total shipment weight.
- Add a Price per ft³ (optional) to see a cost alongside the volume.
- For multiple items, switch to Multi-Product mode and use “+ Add Product,” including the Shipping & Freight sub-tab if you need freight costs.
- For container or vehicle fit, enter the Custom Length, Width, and Height of the space and a Load Efficiency Factor to account for gaps and stacking losses, then compare against your Total Shipment Volume.

What this cubic feet calculator does
The core calculation multiplies length by width by height to get volume in cubic feet, converting automatically if you entered dimensions in a different unit. Why the Load Efficiency Factor matters
A truck bed or container’s raw volume is never fully usable once you account for pallets, gaps between irregular items, and practical stacking limits. The Load Efficiency Factor discounts the raw volume to a more realistic usable figure, so a fit check compares your shipment against what the space can actually hold rather than its theoretical maximum.
Adding weight and cost
Advanced mode’s Weight per Item field is useful when a carrier or storage facility charges by weight as well as volume, so you can see both totals from the same input. The Price per ft³ field works the same way for cost: enter a rate once and every calculation in that mode reflects it automatically.
A note on accuracy
This calculator gives you estimates. Actual carrier volumetric rules, dunnage, and stacking constraints may vary, so confirm final numbers with your carrier or storage provider before committing to a booking.
Frequently asked questions
What shapes can this cubic feet calculator handle?
It’s built for rectangular boxes and cartons. For an irregular item, measure its bounding box (the smallest rectangular box it would fit inside) to get a usable volume estimate.
Can I enter measurements in different units for the same item?
Yes. Each dimension field has its own unit selector, so length, width, and height can each be entered in whatever unit you actually measured them in, and the calculator converts everything before calculating.
How is Multi-Product mode different from just running Simple mode several times?
Multi-Product mode keeps every item’s dimensions and totals in one combined list instead of separate calculations, which makes it easier to get a single shipment total and, if needed, a combined freight cost.
Why would my shipment volume be smaller than the container’s total volume but still not fit?
Because a container’s usable space is always less than its raw volume once pallets, gaps, and stacking limits are accounted for. The Load Efficiency Factor exists specifically to correct for this, so use it rather than comparing raw volumes directly.
